1. Sounds: you may not be able to see the damage, but you can often hear it. This may come in the form of dripping water, creaky floorboards, or even rushing water 
2. Smell: Dampness has a noticeable odor and may also be accompanied by the musky smell of mold.
3. Pooling Water or Puddles: If something is dripping or leaking, puddles of water may collect. If you notice an unusual puddle, it may be a sign of water damage. 
4. Coldness: Dampness affecting the walls may make your home more difficult to heat.
5. Mold: Mold is one of the most obvious sign of water damage, as damp environments often lead to the ideal growing environment for mold and can encourage the spread of it.
6. Discoloration: Discoloration is another sign of water damage. Water marks or stains on interior surfaces may be an indicator of a slow leak.
